Emily Horowitz (she/her), originally from Raleigh, NC, fell in love with dance at four years old. She received much of her early training from the Raleigh School of Ballet under the direction of Mary LeGere and Susan Galdy. She trained primarily and extensively in ballet, spending her summers at Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, San Francisco Ballet, and American Repertory Ballet before later going on to earn her degree in dance pedagogy from Butler University. During her time there studying under Susan McGuire in Graham, Taylor, and Cunningham techniques, and a summer spent at American Dance Festival—where she was selected to perform a restaging of Martha Graham’s Dark Meadow Suite, set by Blakely White McGuire and Masha Maddux—she shifted her focus to modern and contemporary dance. After graduation, she returned to Raleigh and joined Black Box Dance Theatre under the direction of Michelle Pearson, where she was honored to return to American Dance Festival and make her professional debut. She moved to Chicago the summer of 2023 and received a scholarship from the Claire Bataille Legacy Program through Chicago Movement Collective. There she had the privilege to work with Ethan Kirschbaum, Patti Eylar, Shannon Alvis, and Imani English. She also danced with Winifred Haun & Dancers as an apprentice, performing works by Winifred Haun, Ariel Dorsey, and Sarita Childs Smith. Emily could not be more excited to join Aerial Dance Chicago as an apprentice for their 25th season and explore dancing in a whole new dimension!
